It occurred to me the other day that we could be fooled into expecting perfection from ourselves as we proceed along our healing journey. Or worse, that we could expect perfection of others!
Instead I believe God's plan is to heal us unto function. This means that He will heal us enough to accomplish His will and His purposes in us and He will leave us cracked and flawed enough so that He gets the Glory. It also means that we will always need Him to cope with the lack of perfection in ourselves and others.
Being healed unto function will keep us humble and compassionate...exactly where God wants us!
Parents who are serving Jesus have a very fine and difficult line to walk when raising their kids in the ways of the Lord. I believe this is especially true in these days of a New Thing. In our faith community there is no youth group or kids church or Sunday school and we have been so effectively convinced that these things are necessary that we are left grasping and flailing at how to provide for their spiritual needs.
First let me say that I don't believe children need youth group or kids church to thrive in the Lord or grow in Him. Secondly I want to challenge you as parents to trust Him with their spiritual training...ask Jesus when to bring your children with you to meetings or events and do if He says and don't if He doesn't. He knows them best and He is the only one who knows what will be done and said at the gatherings you go to! Don't think for a second think that I believe this is easy, I know that we are called to control everything in our children's life when they are infants and we get to slowly release that control bit by bit until they are grown...this is a difficult task. We are priveledged to have One who will lead us and teach us how. So, just like the scripture says: "But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." I challenge you to not protect your kids from God but instead turn them over to Him for His guidance.
